01 · Our commitment
We build to WCAG 2.2 AA.
We design and build this site — and the SHIRLe application behind it — to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA. We treat a failure to reach that bar as a bug, not a limitation to accept. Plain language, keyboard operability, sufficient contrast, and respect for the settings you have already chosen are requirements, not enhancements.
02 · True today
What is already in place.
- Full keyboard navigation, with a visible “Skip to content” link as the first stop on every page.
- A visible focus outline on every link, button, and control, so you always know where you are.
- Motion honors your system setting. Turn on “reduce motion” and the site drops every transition and fade — nothing moves that you did not ask to move.
- Text contrast checked against WCAG AA across the core palette, at the sizes each colour is actually used.
- Semantic headings, landmarks, and text alternatives. Every illustrative motif carries a written description; decorative marks are hidden from assistive technology.
- Plain-language writing, and nothing that flashes, autoplays, or moves on its own.
03 · Still improving
What we are still working on.
We would rather tell you where we are than claim we are finished.
- A formal, independent WCAG 2.2 AA audit ahead of public launch.
- Screen-reader testing across NVDA, VoiceOver, and JAWS.
- The SHIRLe application itself is in active development. Its accessibility is being built in from the first surface, with the disability communities it serves — not retrofitted at the end.
